Diageo and the Washington Redskins Support Annual WRAP SoberRide Program to Encourage Safety and Responsibility During the Holidays

SoberRide(R) Provides Free Taxi Cab Rides In Greater Washington D.C. Area to Deter Drunk Driving

NORWALK, Conn., Dec. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Diageo, the world's leading premium drinks business and social responsibility advocate, and the Washington Redskins announced recently that it will make a $10,000 donation to WRAP, the Washington Regional Alcohol Program. Part of Diageo's (NYSE: DEO) dedicated responsible drinking programs, the donation will support SoberRide, a free taxi cab ride program created in 1993 to keep Washington D.C. area roads safe from impaired drivers during the traditionally high-risk, holiday period. The donation will help ensure that a greater number of taxi cabs will be available to consumers during the 2008 holiday season.

Offered between the hours of 10:00 pm and 6:00 am each evening between Friday, December 12, 2008 and January 1, 2009, adult Washington-metropolitan area residents consuming alcohol can call the toll-free SoberRide phone number (1-800-200-TAXI) and be afforded a free (up to a $50 fare) safe way home (AT&T wireless customers can dial #TAXI for the same service).

"Supporting the WRAP SoberRide program during this time of year on America's roadways is extremely important to us," said Guy Smith, Executive Vice President, Diageo. "The SoberRide program continues to work to prevent drunk driving and we're proud to support this important initiative for Washington D.C. residents."

"Last December alone, more than 2,500 greater Washington residents did the right thing and availed themselves of this lifesaving service rather than possibly driving home impaired," said Kurt Gregory Erickson, WRAP's President. "For SoberRide's hours of operation last December, such ridership translates into a significant removal of a would-be drunk driver from our shared roadways."

The SoberRide program is also supported by the Washington Redskins and team Director of Responsibility, Ken Harvey. As Director of Responsibility, Harvey oversees the team's "Responsibility is a Team Sport" initiative, which with the support of long-time team sponsor Diageo, is dedicated to the development and implementation of responsibility programs that address the team, players and the community throughout the year.

"The holidays are traditionally a time of year spent celebrating with family and friends, sometimes with an adult beverage," said Ken Harvey, Washington Redskins Director of Responsibility. "Making responsible decisions when drinking, including getting home safe is paramount and this holiday season with the support of Diageo and the Redskins, the WRAP SoberRide program will further ensure a safer community and remind folks that they have options."

Since 1993, WRAP's SoberRide program has provided 41,384 free taxi cab rides to would-be impaired drivers in the greater Washington area.

"As a Board member of WRAP, The Charmer Sunbelt Group is committed to the communities in which we live and serve, and we're proud that one of our leading suppliers is joining us in supporting SoberRide," said Brian Fischer, Vice President, Community Relations, The Charmer Sunbelt Group. "To date, SoberRide has taken more than 41,000 potentially impaired consumers safely home. With continued support from groups such as CSG, Diageo and The Redskins, this important service will continue to help keep D.C. roads safe."

SoberRide is offered in the District of Columbia; throughout the Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George's; and throughout the Northern Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, (eastern) Loudoun and Prince William. In these areas, local taxicab companies will be providing this no-cost service to local residents age 21 and older.
