Richard White has been appointed senior vice president of Government Relations for Jackson National Life Insurance Company® (Jackson®), responsible for the strategy and direction of the company’s government relations efforts at the local, state and federal levels. In this role, White will oversee Jackson’s public policy initiatives and assist in formulating the company’s position regarding policy direction, regulatory requirements and advocacy strategies.
White will be based in Washington, D.C., reporting to Barry Stowe, chairman and chief executive officer of the North American Business Unit of Prudential plc, Jackson’s parent company, as well as Chad Myers, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Jackson, who has general responsibility for the company’s overall government relations efforts. White will lead Jackson’s engagement with local, state and federal legislative and regulatory organizations and agencies, including collaborating with industry leaders and key members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI).
In choosing White for the position, Stowe pointed to the long-standing relationship that has existed between White and Jackson. “For many years, Rich has supported us on a variety of initiatives in a consultant role, most notably managing key federal congressional relationships in the states that are home to our largest office locations — Michigan, Tennessee and Colorado,” he said. “Rich has done a tremendous job advising our leadership team on key issues and regulatory developments, and he will play a significant role continuing these efforts from inside the walls of our organization.”
White brings more than 29 years of public policy, government relations and advocacy leadership experience to Jackson. Most recently, he served as a partner at Thorn Run Partners, a leading federal lobbying and policy consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. In this role, White helped manage the firm’s financial services practice and created and led a variety of successful advocacy programs, developing relationships with key constituents and representing numerous clients, including Jackson, on pertinent issues spanning several different industries.
“We are very excited for Rich and this wonderful opportunity to work in-house for one of our clients,” said Chris Lamond, co-founder of Thorn Run Partners. “In Rich, Jackson is gaining a consummate professional with decades of experience helping clients navigate Washington.”
Before joining Thorn Run Partners in 2014, White helped to found and manage several boutique federal government relations firms and has represented a broad array of clients from Fortune 50 to small innovative medical technology companies. White also established and managed several targeted industry associations, including a coalition of major insurance trade groups and companies focused on the future of insurance regulation.
Prior to his time in the private sector, White worked in the White House under former President George H.W. Bush and in the United States Senate for the late Senator John H. Chafee of Rhode Island. White has also managed and held senior roles in a number of federal and state political campaigns. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in government from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. and a Juris Doctorate from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and served as Chairman of Advancement Committee for the Board of Visitors of the Columbus School of Law.
