U.K. Carbon-Capture Project to Use Deep-Sea Storage, an Industrial Info News Alert

GALWAY, IRELAND -- (Marketwire) -- 09/10/09 -- Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- A preliminary agreement to store carbon dioxide in the depleted Viking gas field off the east coast of England has been signed by gas field owner ConocoPhilips (NYSE:COP) (Houston, Texas) and U.K. coal producer Powerfuel plc (Stainforth, England). The deal paves the way for carbon captured from Powerfuel's proposed 900-megawatt (MW) coal-fired integrated gas combined cycle (IGCC) plant in Hatfield, South Yorkshire, to be stored deep under the seabed.
