Innovative Technology Drives New CSR Practices - The Minute

SOURCE: 3BL Media, LLC

DESCRIPTION:

Tech innovations are creating opportunities for companies to explore new ways of executing their CSR commitments, through interactive practices to engage with stakeholders more directly and more effectively. That’s the conclusion of a recent BBC survey of several new online platforms.

In the U.K., Neighbourly connects companies with charities and projects. One of those projects connected 100 Marks & Spencer stores in an initiative to redistribute surplus food to those in need. By the end of the year, Neighbourly aims to redistribute one million meals through M&S’s entire network. Neighbourly has also coordinated 2,500 days of volunteering pledged by Starbucks to back 70 community projects. Volunteerism is also being facilitated by platforms such as Helpful Peeps, which connects volunteers with companies looking for worthy causes to support. These tech innovations allow ideas to work up from the grassroots, where local community needs can be better identified. That process allows corporate sponsors to respond with expertise, skills, and support, resources that business can best contribute.
