11 Studies on FORE-SIGHT(R) Presented at the Annual Meetings of the Pediatric Academic Societies and Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists

BRANFORD, Conn., May 1, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CAS Medical Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CASM) (CASMED) announced today the presentation of 11 different studies supporting the value of FORE-SIGHT® Tissue Oximetry at the Annual Meetings of the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA). Both conferences are being held in Boston; PAS runs from April 28 through May 1 and SCA runs from April 28 through May 2. CASMED is an exhibitor at both conferences.

"One of our key strategic goals is to continue building upon the solid base of published clinical data in support of our FORE-SIGHT Tissue Oximetry technology," said Thomas M. Patton, President and CEO of CASMED. "The data continue to accumulate showing that FORE-SIGHT Absolute Tissue Oximetry can be used to empower clinicians with critical information as they seek to improve patient care.

"We are focused on supporting our newly expanded sales organization with scientific data as they call upon clinicians and hospital administrators. Our active presence at conferences such as the PAS and SCA is an important initiative as we seek to establish FORE-SIGHT as the standard of care in cerebral oximetry, not only for cardiac procedures, but for a host of other applications. In addition, with FORE-SIGHT newly cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the abdominal monitoring of premature newborns, and the only cleared tissue oximeter with a specific abdominal claim, we are pleased that FORE-SIGHT is the subject of so many presentations," Mr. Patton added.

Noteworthy among those presentations is data in support of the accuracy of CASMED's new, soon-to-be-released algorithm for monitoring the neonatal gut utilizing its unique stool compensation ability, which is presented by Dr Mariam Said and her colleagues from Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Also Dr. Hans Fuchs and his colleagues from Children's Hospital in New Orleans are presenting groundbreaking data showing that the progression of absolute cerebral values provided by the FORE-SIGHT Tissue Oximeter in newborns in the 10 minutes after birth does not vary by delivery method. These values can now be used as healthy baseline comparisons to better determine infants at risk immediately after delivery.

A complete list of the presentations noting the use of FORE-SIGHT Tissue Oximetry follows:

PAS:

  • Influence of Arterial Oxygen Saturation Target Range on Cerebral Oxygenation in Infants with Severe Apnea of Prematurity
  • Cerebral Oxygenation of Healthy Term Newborns during Transition to Neonatal Life
  • Pressure Versus Volume Limited Sustained Inflations – How Should We Recruit the Preterm Lung?
  • Effects of Sustained Lung Inflations on Hemodynamics, Cerebral Perfusion and Oxygenation in the Small Adult Animal with Experimental Lung Injury
  • Comparison of NIRS Traditional vs. Stool Compensating Somatic Algorithms when Measuring Abdominal Tissue Oxygen Saturation on Neonates ≤ 4kg
  • NIRS Abdominal Somatic Tissue Oxygen Saturation Validation Model for Neonates ≤ 4kg
  • Cerebral Oxygen Saturation Using Multiple Platforms in Term and Pre-Term Neonates during Transition
  • Monitoring Mesenteric Tissue Oxygenation with NIRS during Packed Red Blood Cell Transfusion in Preterm Infants
  • Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) in Newborns with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) Who Received Whole Body Hypothermia (WBH)
  • NIRS Technology Detects an Increase in the [Arterial-Muscle] Oxygen Saturation Gradient Associated with a Decrease in Cardiac Output

SCA:

  • Processed EEG Data and Cerebral Non-Invasive Oximetry (CNIO) in Percutaneous Aortic Bioprosthesis Implantation (PABI)

About CASMED® – Monitoring What's Vital

CASMED is a leading developer and manufacturer of medical devices for non-invasive patient monitoring. The Company's FORE-SIGHT Absolute Cerebral Oximeter is the only cerebral oximeter available with FDA clearance for non-invasive, continuous measurement of absolute cerebral tissue oxygen saturation for all patients, regardless of age or weight.   Direct monitoring of tissue oxygenation provides a unique and powerful tool to alert clinicians to otherwise unrecognized and dangerously low levels of oxygenation of the brain and other tissues thereby allowing them to intervene appropriately in the care of their patients. In addition to FORE-SIGHT Oximeters and accessories, the Company provides a line of bedside patient vital signs monitoring products, proprietary non-invasive blood pressure monitoring solutions for OEM use, neonatal intensive care supplies, and service. CASMED products are designed to meet the needs of a full spectrum of patient populations worldwide, ranging from adults to pediatrics and neonates.
