COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Diageo, the world's leading distilled spirits, wine, and beer company is proud to support the launch of the "We Don't Serve Teens" campaign in Ohio. Unveiled nationally in October, the "We Don't Serve Teens" campaign was created by the Federal Trade Commission and The Century Council to remind adults about the legal repercussions of furnishing alcohol to minors by distributing materials to retailers and community organizations across the nation. Supporters gathered today at Club Carry Out in Columbus at Airy Pony Keg & Liquor in Cincinnati to hear speakers including Attorney General Marc Dann.
The "We Don't Serve Teens" campaign targets adults, reminding them that providing alcohol to teens is unsafe, illegal and irresponsible. Elements of the campaign include a television public service announcement, print ads, lapel pins, posters and cold-case stickers in English and Spanish that are given out at retail stores across the country.
"Diageo commends the citizens of these communities and Attorney General Dann for taking the initiative to show their support in the fight against underage drinking," said Barry Becton, Senior Director State Government Relations, Diageo. "Underage drinking affects the entire community -- we must work together to keep alcohol out of the hands of anyone under the age of 21."
Research commissioned by The Century Council, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking, reveals that 65% of underage youth who drink obtain alcohol from family and friends. Only 7% of youth report that they obtained alcohol from retailers who failed to check for identification.
