Sony Creative Software, obviously a Sony subsidiary, this morning announced the acquisition of Netblender, a six-year old company that develops a range of Blu-ray Disc creation tools.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The deal gives Sony Creative Software control over NetBlender’s DoStudio product line of optical disc authoring applications, to expand its current portfolio of Blu-ray Disc software products (the company also makes professional video editing and music creation tools).

In 2009, NetBlender debuted its BD Touch technology, which allows consumers to control TVs, Blu-ray players and cable boxes with their iOS and Android devices.

Based in Alexandria, Virginia, NetBlender’s products are said to have been used for the production of over 2,000 retail Blu-ray Disc titles to date.

Sony Creative Software and NetBlender will continue to provide customer service and technical support throughout the transition, the companies said in a statement.
