NAPA, Calif., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The sun's last hurrah laid long shadows across the barren plain. Wily Jack sat on a weathered outcropping enjoying his new freedom. The city, a distant blur on the horizon, couldn't reach him here. Tomorrow he would continue west, but tonight he would lie on his back and watch the stars spin tight circles around an unknown point in the infinite sky.
So goes Chapter One of the ongoing chronicles of Wily Jack, the fictitious character behind Wily Jack wines. Just launched by Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, Wily Jack wines offers a 2008 Chardonnay, 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2007 Zinfandel, each with a unique label featuring strong visuals displaying the striking image of Wily Jack. All varietals launched nationally with a suggested retail price of $8.00.
Winemaker Jason Becker traversed vineyards throughout California to source quality fruit for Wily Jack wines. The 2008 Chardonnay opens with tropical fruit notes on the nose with zingy lemon zest and lingering vanilla on the palate. The 2007 Cabernet lures wine lovers in with dark fruits on the nose and mouth. Cinnamon, nutmeg and jammy plum and blackberry flavors define the 2007 Zinfandel.
In addition to demanding excellent wine and great value, today's consumers are gravitating to entertaining packaging and non-traditional marketing. Wily Jack adds an element of adventure and whimsy to the landscape. He is crafty, clever, wise, worldly, straightforward, authentic and entertaining.
The evocative label was created by Michael Schwab, one of America's most celebrated graphic artists. "My style of illustration is very dramatic in its reductive style, meaning: I like to leave a lot of details out. Less is more," said Schwab. "I wanted these three silhouette portraits to pull the consumer in. More mystery, more intrigue, more drama!"
The three labels feature different silhouettes of the main character wearing his signature hat. The back labels offer the first three chapters of the ongoing Wily Jack saga.
Chapter Two: She studied his face hoping to find a single clue that would help shape her decision. His penetrating eyes said everything and nothing she needed to know. This was not a time for self doubt. Her well-honed instincts were rarely wrong. They were sure that her full house would win the hand. Her well-honed instincts had never met Wily Jack.
